Live work and play in this tropical paradise

9 May 2008

The provision of quality staff and resources to support general practitioners increases opportunities.

MACKAY Division of General Practice Ltd (MDGP) has two exciting initiatives – GP locum services and allied health services – that enhance the general practitioner’s role in providing effective primary health care while giving GPs and allied health professionals a unique opportunity to work and live in a supportive and relaxed environment.

“Mackay is one of the fastest growing areas in Queensland – particularly with the increase in mining – so health services are very much in demand,” said MDGP medical adviser Dr Fiona Millard.

Consequently, the Mackay division has responded by providing quality staff and resources to support general practitioners in the region. To expand local services, the division is actively recruiting doctors and allied health professionals from all disciplines including mental health nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, podiatrists and dieticians.

“Our division provides a great deal of both professional and personal support for doctors and allied health staff. We employ allied health professionals to whom GPs can refer their patients, enabling coordinated care through access to multidisciplinary teams. We also back up our medical staff with dedicated administration staff that understand their needs,” Dr Millard said.

The vision of the allied health service is to be a dynamic and progressive service provider that is expanding to meet the emerging needs of both the public and private sector.

The Mackay/Whitsunday region, gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, embraces a relaxed tropical lifestyle.

The district offers an incredible diversity of locations and lifestyle from beaches, islands, rain forests, mountains and lowlands, inner city, outback and everything in between.

Economic diversity and a progressive community attitude towards development make the Mackay/Whitsunday region one of the most rewarding areas in Queensland to live, work and enjoy life. Covering an area in excess of 90,000 square kilometres, the region is home to 160,000 friendly people.

The weather is one of its greatest assets, with warm to hot tropical summers and blue skies, sunshine and cool nights throughout the remainder of the year.

Mackay has regular direct flights to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to live, work and experience what sunny Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef have to offer. For all GPs and allied health professionals, it offers an ideal appointment for a sabbatical term or starting a new life with guaranteed weekly income,” Dr Millard said.

The Mackay division currently has vacancies for general practitioner locums, specialists, allied health professionals, practice staff and division staff. Placements for GP locums will be at medical practices located in and around Mackay, the Whitsundays and rural towns.

Our allied health professionals operate from several locations within the division area. A flexible income package is available for suitably qualified applicants.
