Big wrap for our nurses

9 May 2008

LAST year Regional Nursing Solutions (RNS) wrapped the Sunshine Coast’s Big Pineapple in giant bandages from top to bottom. This year, the Coast’s Ettamogah Pub is the venue for the 2008 Big Wrap for Nurses on May 4, which kick starts a week of celebrations for International Nurses’ Day on May 12. The Big Wrap for Nurses is about just that; giving nurses and health care professionals the recognition they deserve and for just one day of the year, focusing on the important role they play in hospitals, aged and health care facilities across the Sunshine Coast. Now in its second year, the event is gaining momentum and recognition from the Sunshine Coast community. It’s a day of celebrations to focus the spotlight on this worthy profession and treat nurses to some good fun. Aussie World will play host to the official opening on Sunday, May 4 at 11am, with guest speaker Loree Rudd. The Aussie World car park will be converted to a race track for hospital beds, where teams will compete to win $1000 prize money donated by RACQ, and The Golden Bed Pan Trophy donated by one of the day’s sponsors, Central Queensland University. The evening features a buffet dinner and a chance for the industry to mingle and get involved in the Outback Nursing theme. This all sounds like great fun, and it is, but the serious message of the Big Wrap for Nurses is an important one not to be missed. Regional Nursing Solutions managing director and event founder Sue Dunlop said RNS took a 360-degree approach to the business of nursing. “We provide our nurses with employment, training, lifestyle balance and social interaction,” she said. “With like-minded employers involved in The Big Wrap, the nursing community has an opportunity to celebrate as a whole and treat all Sunshine Coast nurses as VIPs for at least a day.” “Last year the day was filled with laughter, competitive spirit, celebration and teamwork, and had health care organisations involved in all parts of the day (opening, bed races and ball). “We networked, competed and danced together, with some people meeting for the first time. The sponsors and individual teams involved showed themselves to be open to innovation by throwing themselves into the day with great spirit.” If you would like more information about the day contact event organisers 2right on 5448 2661 or visit myrns.com.au. RNS supports the region’s aged care and health care industry by providing a team of highly-qualified nurses for short and long-term placement around the clock.
